To highlight and honor this year’s Nobel Prize laureates and their discoveries, fashion students from Beckmans College of Design have created free interpretations of this year’s prizes in the form of wearable ceremonial attire. They will present their creations during the night.

Listen to researcher and designer Maurizio Montalti (IT) in a conversation about what he describes as an upcoming “biotechnological revolution”. Montalti founded the interdisciplinary studio Officina Corpuscoli (NL) in 2010, as well as SQIM/ephea/mogu (IT) in 2015. The bio-technological company SQIM/ephea/mogu is researching, scaling up, and commercializing various typologies of innovative biomaterials deriving from fermentation-based processes, powered by fungal mycelium.

A selection of Montalti’s works are shown in the exhibition Fungi – In Art and Science, as well as Balenciaga’s “Maxi Hooded Wrap Coat”, realised with ephea, a new class of mycelium-based flexible materials for fashion, developed by Maurizio Montalti and his team. His work has previously been exhibited at museums such as MoMA in New York, Centre Pompidou in Paris, MAXXI in Rome, Triennale in Milan, and the Design Museum in London.
