Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) includes Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. IBD is usually lifelong, and it has become more common. It now affects about 100,000 people in Sweden. Treatments include medication and often surgery. Research at Karolinska Institutet shows that IBD is associated with increased risk for other diseases.

We need to improve human health around the world, at the same time as we must drastically reduce our consumption of resources drawn from the planet. How can we do this? According to Stefan Swartling Peterson, professor of global transformations for health, we must engage young people on these issues – and time is running out!

In 1970 Hannes Alfvén (1908-1995), a professor at the Royal Institute of Technology, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for his discoveries in plasma physics and their applications. The exhibition "Space Waves and a Tale" tells about portions of Alfvén's extensive research, his active civic engagement and, not least, his 1966 literary work "Sagan om den stora datamaskinen".

During this special guided tour, we will tell about some of the historical figures whose images are displayed in the Golden Hall of Stockholm City Hall. Its walls are decorated with 18 million mosaic pieces, which tell about Sweden's history.
