Climate change affects us all, and the way we address climate change in the educational system will have a major impact on future generations. But how should teachers present this topic without creating climate anxiety or hopelessness? How can we support our students in finding constructive ways to work towards a sustainable future? The initiative for the teachers’ conference is based on the ability of the Nobel Prize to inspire people to seek knowledge and to ask questions – in order to understand and improve the world.
The 2019 Nobel Prize Teacher Summit will take place on 11 October. Its theme is Climate Change Changes Everything. Climate change affects us all, and the way we address climate change in the educational system will have a major impact on future generations. Hiroshi Amano– 2014 Nobel Laureate in Physics for his role in developing the LED lamp.
Beatrice Fihn, head of ICAN – which received the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize for its work towards abolishing nuclear weapons.
Mario J. Molina– 1995 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, who helped discover how freons damage the ozone layer of the atmosphere.
Johan Rockström– Professor of environmental science at Stockholm University, who has made the concept of the limits to our planet’s life support systems understandable.
