What does such a large research facility look like, and how do staff members work to ensure that the fish are as well off as possible? During a guided tour lasting about one hour, we will show you everything from technical equipment and breeding practices to our research.

You will learn what fields of research zebrafish are used for, and how they contribute to the discovery of new drugs and provide a greater understanding of human diseases. See how zebrafish farming works, from mating and fertilisation to adulthood. Learn to tell the difference between the sexes and how the lab keeps count of all the fish. Look into a microscope and observe embryos and hatchlings at different stages of life. You also get an opportunity to see fluorescent lights illuminate the insides of live hatchlings. If you have never seen a green pumping heart, or red blood cells flying around in a circulatory system, this is your chance.

The tour will also show so-called high-throughput systems that are used to develop new drugs. You will learn how zebrafish can help find new treatments for diseases. You can ask questions both during and after the tour. Take the opportunity for a unique experience by visiting the largest zebrafish facility in the Nordic countries. Guided tours will be organised by the staff at the Zebrafish Core Facility, Karolinska Institutet.
