Ingrid Carlberg’s recent book Nobel: The Enigmatic Alfred and His Prizes is the first comprehensive account of Nobel and the creation of the prize. Her work on this book was based on an enormous amount of source material. She has dug into archives in five countries and ploughed through thousands of private letters, including at the Stockholm City Archives. Listen to her description of how the archive material helped her to paint a vivid portrait of Alfred Nobel’s life – from his impoverished early childhood in Stockholm through 19th-century Europe to his death in San Remo, Italy in 1896.
During the evening we will also offer live music, bubbly beverages and some snacks.
The programme will feature Ingrid Carlberg, author, journalist and member of the Swedish Academy, in conversation with Hampus Busk, archivist at the City Archives.
