Alfred Nobel had a great interest in medical research. In the early 1890s, he invited the Swedish physiologist Jöns Johansson to his laboratory in France. They had become acquainted with each other at Karolinska Institutet, and together they did medical research. Physiology or Medicine was the third prize category that Nobel mentioned in his will. Since 1901, the medicine laureates have been selected by the Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet (a medical university).
On 7 October, at no earlier than 11:30, we will find out who will be added to the 227-name list of medicine laureates. Would you like to experience this exciting moment with us at the Nobel Prize Museum? Every day we will live-stream when each Nobel Prize committee announces who will be awarded this year’s Nobel Prize in its field. Invited experts will help us understand what achievements are being rewarded and what this may mean for the future.
