One hundred thousand people in Sweden are suffering from inflammatory bowel disease – the latest research findings

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) includes Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. IBD is usually lifelong, and it has become more common. It now affects about 100,000 people in Sweden. Treatments include medication and often surgery. Research at Karolinska Institutet shows that IBD is associated with increased risk for other diseases.

During a two-hour session, researchers belonging to the “Karolinska IBD Alliance” (KIBDA) network will present new findings in the IBD field and show how coordination between the health care system, the patient and researchers can lead to better care for those suffering from the disease.
