Did you know that the first recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize was Henri Dunant, who founded the Red Cross? His experiences of human suffering from the Battle of Solferino in 1859 affected him so strongly that he founded the Red Cross in 1863. Just a few years later, in 1867, the Swedish Red Cross University College was founded, which became the first non-religious educational institution for nurses in this country.

The Swedish Red Cross University College has strongly contributed to laying the foundation for the status of the nursing profession in Sweden today. The school’s first director, Emmy Rappe (1835-1896), was trained in London by Florence Nightingale, who is considered the world’s first professional nurse.

You are invited to take a guided tour of the Red Cross University College, where you get to see old educational environments and new premises. You will also learn more about the Red Cross, the “White Buses” humanitarian operation at the end of the Second World War and how the nursing profession has evolved over the past 150 years.

The tour leader will be Helene Komlos Grill, Communications Manager at the Swedish Red Cross University College. After the tour, light refreshments will be served.
