Once they delve, deeper into the exhibition, the images change. Vibrant, highly relevant words flow from the Literature laureates’ texts: repression, murder, censor. The words call for resistance and change and point to what we prefer not to see.
As Ebba Holmberg, head of literary questions at the Nobel Museum, says:
The twelve laureates we highlight in the exhibition have used their writings to unwaveringly defend humanitarian values. With courage and integrity, they have dared to challenge existing systems and ways of thinking and have taught us something about what it means to be human”.
Literary Rebellion is based on interviews and images by the photographer Kim Manresa and the journalist Xavi Ayén, who, for more than ten years, have created portraits of Nobel Laureates in Literature. The exhibition’s premier on Friday 22 September at 5.30 pm is open to the public and it will continue until September 2018.
Literary Rebellion provides the backdrop for Nobel Center’s celebration of the 2017 Nobel Prize, which will be announced in early October. Residents of Stockholm are invited to join in the celebration and learn more about this year’s Nobel Prize. The full programme is available under What’s on.
