Welcome to be a co-creator in an Augmented Reality (AR) artwork by artists Lundahl & Seitl och Untold Garden. The artwork Garden of Ghost Flowers will be showcased in our exhibition Fungi – in Art and Science.

In a digital biosphere at the Nobel Prize Museum, a new species is emerging – plants generated by an algorithm. The voices of our visitors provide nourishment and make the digital plants grow.

The plants are modelled after the traits of the real flower Monotropa Uniflora, commonly known as the ‘ghost flower’, a plant that abandoned photosynthesis, survives in darkness and feeds on the fungal web in the earth’s soil.

Just like its biological ancestor relies on a symbiotic relationship with fungi to survive, the digital Ghost Flower thrives on the collective resonance of a group and the interaction between visitors. You participate in the artwork by contributing with your voice.

The movements and the emotions expressed in the visitor’s voices will be interpreted by the algorithm into new plants. Neither the artists nor the programmers behind the algorithm know how the voices, emotions, and movements of participants will influence what grows. It is uncertain if the virtual Ghost Flower is symbiotic or parasitic.

The work takes place in our cinema.
