Did the TV series The last of us made you wonder if fungi could rule the world? Have you heard that psychedelic mushrooms could cure depression? Can we build houses and make clothes from mycelium? What can we learn from mushrooms growing hundreds of meters down into the bedrock, about the origin of life?
Welcome to see our exhibition Fungi – In Art and Science and listen to a conversation between Hanna Johannesson and Anna Rosling about possibilities and threats in the world of mushrooms.
Throughout history, humans have been fascinated by fungi. They are neither plants, nor animals but live in symbiosis with both. They are all around us and inside us, but they often remain invisible. The last decades, scientific discoveries have shown how the underground fine network of fungi, unites eco systems and shapes our world. However, the world of fungi is still full of mysteries, waiting to be solved.
Hanna Johannesson is a professor at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Her research focuses on the interface between mycology and evolutionary biology. Anna Rosling is a lecturer in evolutionary biology at Uppsala University. Her research focuses on the diversity and function of fungi in the soil ecosystem.
The evening begins with a guided tour of the exhibition Fungi – In Art and Science at 17:15-17:45. The conversation takes place in the museum’s bistro at 18:00-19:00.
The museum bistro and shop will be open the whole evening.
