In 1968, Sveriges Riksbank (Sweden’s central bank) established the Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. The prize is based on a donation that the Nobel Foundation received in 1968 from Sveriges Riksbank on the occasion of the bank’s 300th anniversary. The first prize in economic sciences was awarded to Ragnar Frisch and Jan Tinbergen in 1969. Since then, laureates in economic sciences have been selected by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, according to the same principles as for the Nobel Prizes that the Academy has awarded since 1901.

On 14 October, at no earlier than 11:45, we will find out who will be added to the 93-name list of laureates in economic sciences. Would you like to experience this exciting moment with us at the Nobel Prize Museum? Every day we will live-stream when each Nobel Prize committee announces who will be awarded this year’s Nobel Prize in its field. Invited experts will help us understand what achievements are being rewarded and what this may mean for the future.
