If you look around, everything is about chemistry. The world around us consists of molecules and atoms. Chemists today are finding increasingly efficient methods for creating and assembling molecules in new ways. They can be used to manufacture new materials and more effective medicines. These processes are often complicated and require a lot of energy. The 2021 Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to researchers who discovered a new way to build molecules that make chemistry simpler, cleaner and cheaper.
In a conversation with Gustav Källstrand of the Nobel Prize Museum, Nobel Prize laureate David MacMillan talks about the chemistry of the future – and about why he thought the news of his Nobel Prize was a joke!
