In connection with the exhibition Snow and Rain Shall Pass, a book with the same title is released. In the book, Karin Alfredsson’s photographs are accompanied by two poems by Nobel Prize laureate Jon Fosse.
Swedish photographer Karin Alfredsson has found a kindred spirit in the Norwegian playwright and poet Jon Fosse. In his poems we encounter images of forests, mountains, lakes, darkness and light, in the face of which human smallness and vulnerability emerge. As Alfredsson and Fosse found resonance in each other’s work they initiated a dialogue via email that has led to the choice of poems.
Snow and Rain Shall Pass is also the title of an ongoing series of Alfredsson’s works. The title is both poetic and factual, like a weather report. This is also how Karin Alfredsson’s images can be perceived. She is not interested in what can be described as postcard beauty. “Beauty is not the meaning but the depth behind it.” she states. The photographs are from Djatlov Pass, the Arctic Basin, northern Sweden, Norway and the Arctic. But she prefers not to put titles with specific names on places. They ‘just are’.
The book includes a text by Linus Elmes and a foreword by Magnus af Petersens. The book is published by Konst/ig Books and designed by Patrik Leo.
Welcome to an evening about Karin Alfredsson’s photographs. Listen to a conversation between the Nobel Prize Museum’s Karl-Johan Cottman and Karin Alfredsson and experience Jon Fosse’s poetry read by actor Danilo Bejarano.
