Sounds of Old Town is a combined ticket that includes two guided tours and a concert. The Nobel Prize Museum shares stories of Nobel Prize Laureates and their connections to music. The Medieval Museum takes you on a walk through medieval Stockholm, exploring the role of music \u2013 from street performers and town pipers to church songs and rituals. The evening concludes with an organ concert in the grand, centuries-old Storkyrkan. Before the concert, you are invited to explore the church’s interior on your own, which usually requires an entrance ticket.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Nobel Prize Museum: With music as motivation<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What did the poet Louise Gl\u00fcck find in the composer Gustav Mahler\u2019s music that inspired her acclaimed poetry collection <\/span>Averno<\/span><\/i>? The guided tour at the Nobel Prize Museum offers insight into the background of the Nobel Prize, and explores how music has played a vital role in the work and creativity of Nobel Prize Laureates.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Medieval Museum: Time to Play! Music in Medieval Stockholm<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What did Stockholm sound like in the Middle Ages? With instruments like bone flutes, jaw harps, and ocarinas, the city\u2019s performers and jesters amused the townspeople. Music and song were viewed differently back then, but often served the same purposes as today \u2013\u202fbringing comfort and joy, telling stories and myths, and playing a key role in church rituals. Listen to tales of the music and sounds that echoed through the streets, squares, and churches during the Medieval Museum\u2019s walking tour.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Stockholm Cathedral: Bach goes\u2026<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the cathedral\u2019s concert series <\/span>Bach goes\u2026<\/span><\/i>, the timeless music of Johann Sebastian Bach meets new interpretations. Bach\u2019s baroque tones are reimagined by contemporary musicians on the church\u2019s Marcussen organ from 1960. Next to the grand organ is the ornate organ loft, with a balustrade and fa\u00e7ade designed in 1787 by architect Erik Palmstedt.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
