Breakthroughs in artificial intelligence (AI) over the past few years, including deep learning and generative AI, are creating completely new opportunities for tackling the climate issue. In some cases, it may even help us discover and understand other living species better. But AI also creates new sustainability problems and risks. Can artificial intelligence really help us accelerate the climate transition? What impact can we expect on people, nature and the climate within the next ten years? And why should we view digitisation as a \u201cmine\u201d rather than a \u201ccloud\u201d&#8221;?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Victor Galaz<\/strong> is an author, Associate Professor of Political Science and researcher at the Stockholm Resilience Centre (Stockholm University) and the Beijer Institute for Ecological Economics (Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences).
