Dmitry Muratov \u2013 Freedom of expression in focus
\n<\/strong><\/b>In 2021, Dmitry Muratov was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to safeguard freedom of expression. For decades, he has been editor-in-chief of the Russian newspaper\u00a0Novaya Gazeta<\/em>, where he and his associates have conducted investigative journalism. Meet him in a conversation with journalist and author Ingrid Carlberg and philosopher and author \u00c5sa Wikforss about freedom of expression, democracy and lasting peace.<\/p>\n

The conversation with Dimitry Muratov is one of several activities aimed at drawing attention to efforts to promote democracy and freedom of expression. In May, the Nobel Foundation and the US National Academy of Sciences organised a three-day conference in Washington DC about disinformation and its damaging impact on trust in science and democracy. In March 2023, the Swedish Academy also hosted a conference about today\u2019s threats to freedom of expression and democracy, entitled \u201cThought and Truth under Pressure\u201d.<\/p>\n

Tawakkol Karman<\/strong><\/b>\u202f<\/strong><\/b>\u2212 Determination and change
\n<\/strong><\/b>In 2011, Tawakkol Karman was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her work in democratising Yemen. She will participate in a conversation at the Nobel Prize Museum about courage, determination and how injustice against an individual is an assault on all of humanity. The conversation will be moderated by the Carin Klaesson of the Nobel Prize Museum.<\/p>\n
