Researchers at the Centre for Palaeogenetics have, among other things, mapped the genes from one million year-old mammoths and have studied the cave lion Spartak. In studies of human DNA, they have mapped patterns of migration to Scandinavia during the Stone Age and the Viking era. The Centre’s research findings have received a great deal of international attention. By studying DNA in sediments, researchers can also see how ecosystems have varied throughout history.
