Under-five mortality rates have fallen by more than half, many more children are in school and fewer children are living in extreme poverty. But five million children per year still die before their fifth birthday, and the risk of death for children in the worst-affected countries is fifty times higher than in countries with the best child health.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"nobelsidfot\"><strong><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Tobias Alfv\u00e9n<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0is a paediatrician and associate professor of global health at the Department of Global Health, Karolinska Institutet. He joins his colleague\u00a0<\/span><\/span><strong><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Juliet Mwanga-Amumpaire<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"EN-GB\">, paediatrician and associate professor at Mbarara University in
