Was awarded jointly to Harvey J. Alter, Michael Houghton and Charles M. Rice for the discovery of Hepatitis C virus.

A liver-shaped creation made by recycled material that is inspired by how hepatitis C develops and how it spreads. The creased inner part of the dress shapes cirrhosis of the liver. The folds symbolize that it is transmitted by infectious blood entering the bloodstream of another person, they spread around the dress just as the blood spreads in the body. The red color is for drawing attention to the disease.
