Connecting Elements is an exhibition about one of the fields that Alfred Nobel specified for the Nobel Prize: chemistry. It shows how elements and molecules combine to create the world around us; how their shapes and properties define us; how chemical processes exist around us and inside us. It also asks: what can chemistry do to improve our society? What can you do?

The Nobel Laureates and their discoveries are a gateway that allows us to see the fascinating riches of our world. The Laureates’ work shows us the joy of discovering and understanding. Their contributions demonstrate the possibility of using our knowledge to develop new opportunities to change our world.

The life and works of Nobel Laureate Marie Curie introduces the world of chemical elements. With a periodic table with real elements – from iron to gold, from hydrogen to neon – you can explore their properties to understand how it all fits together.

Molecules & Structures

The life and works of Nobel Laureate Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin introduces the section on molecules and structures. Explore 3D-printed models on important molecules such as insulin or the ribosome, to understand how shape and form informs function.

Chemical Reactions

The life and works of Nobel Laureate Ahmed Zewail introduces the chemical reactions that we can find all over. From the fermentation of bread to the electrolysis in a battery, find the beauty in the microscopic world. This section also contains a demonstration of the principle for which Zewail was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry: femtosecond spectroscopy.

Chemistry of Life

The life and works of Nobel Laureate Melvin Calvin introduces the chemistry that we find in life. Find out which processes happen in your body. Learn how they control everything from breathing and energy supply to the reparation of your genes. Experience photosynthesis through the air bubbles from aquatic plants.

Chemistry Changes the World

What would the world be like, without the Nobel Prize awarded research made in chemistry? Chemistry changes the world ranges form agriculture to pharmacology to see what can be achieved by inspiration and hard work by dedicated scientists.
